Visibility
Understand and improve how your organization appears in search results and online directories.
What is Visibility?
Visibility measures how easy it is for potential customers and partners to find your business online. A higher visibility score means more people can discover your organization when searching for your services.
Visibility Components
Your visibility score is calculated from several factors:
Search Rankings
How well your website ranks for important search terms relevant to your industry and services.
Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile optimization:
- Complete profile information
- Accurate hours and services
- Quality photos
- Regular posts and updates
- Review responses
Local SEO
Factors that affect local search rankings:
- NAP consistency (Name, Address, Phone across the web)
- Local citations and directory listings
- Geographic relevance
- Local backlinks
Directory Listings
Your presence on important industry directories and platforms:
- Google Business Profile
- Yelp
- Industry-specific directories

Scoring Algorithm
Your Overall Score uses the Northstar scoring algorithm to combine signals from search visibility, listings quality, website performance, and reputation. The algorithm version helps you track changes to how scores are calculated over time.
Score Breakdown

Revenue Impact
See what your visibility score means in real business terms. The Revenue Impact card translates your scores into an estimated monthly revenue gap, showing approximately how many new clients you may be missing and which categories have the highest dollar impact. Estimates are based on industry benchmarks for your business type.
Benchmarking
Compare your score against industry peers to understand relative performance and identify competitive gaps.
Listing Health
Monitor the consistency and completeness of your listings across major platforms and directories.
The top Listing Health score cards stay visible for quick review. Directory and issue details now use compact rows with optional expand controls so you can scan quickly and open deeper details only when needed.
AI Search Visibility
AI Search Visibility (AEO) tracks how often AI assistants mention your business and how those mentions are framed.
The top AEO score block remains fixed for fast status checks. Query-level evidence is organized into compact tabs (Queries Tested, Per-Engine Results, Why This Score, Sample AI Responses) with optional detail expansion.
AEO Score Breakdown
The AEO score is out of 100 and is the sum of four sub-scores:
- Visibility (0-25): mention frequency across all AI checks
- Position (0-25): where mentions appear in responses (
first,early,late,absent) - Sentiment (0-25): tone around your brand (
positive,neutral,negative) - Accuracy (0-25): exact-name accuracy among mentions
Example:
9/25means that metric is performing at 36% of its possible range.- If Visibility shows
9/25, that can come from roughly3 mentions out of 8 checks.
Confidence Levels
AEO confidence is scanner-generated from coverage diagnostics (query completeness + engine cross-validation):
- High confidence: multiple engines and enough query volume
- Medium confidence: useful trend signal, but limited coverage
- Low confidence: early baseline only; too little coverage for a stable benchmark
How to Improve AEO Faster
- Increase brand mentions in trusted third-party sources and citations.
- Align website pages with customer-intent queries (discovery, comparison, trust).
- Keep business name and NAP details consistent across site and directories.
- Build stronger positive review/testimonial signals to improve sentiment.
